Making a Change with Change – Supporting the Houston and Galveston Food Banks
Please join us in Making A Change with Change by donating your spare change to benefit the Houston and Galveston County Food Banks now thru October 19, 2011. Look for donation jugs at Real Estate Offices and HAR Offices throughout the Greater Houston and Galveston areas. Here are some important facts about the Food Bank:
- Children make up 47% of 137,000 people who receive assistance each week.
- ‘Food insecurity’ is a technical term that means not knowing where your next meal will come from. Imagine that thought as a child.
- Backpack Buddy Club is a program sponsored by the Food Banks where backpacks filled with food are delivered to participating schools and given to qualified children to take home for the weekend.
- $1 feeds an individual for a day.
- 95 cents of each donated dollar goes toward feeding the hungry.
- Every non-profit organization calculates a dollar amount that corresponds to each volunteer hour. The Food Bank’s volunteer hour is worth $20.25. When the Food Bank is short of volunteers, they need to hire temporary help. In July 2011, the Food Bank spend $10,000 on temporary help that could have gone toward buying, sorting, repackaging, and distributing food.
That could have been 10,000 meals.

Your donation goes directly to the Food Bank and is tax-deductible.
Every dollar you put in the hands of the Food Banks equals a full day of meals for a child,
adult or senior.
We appreciate your contribution.
